1. Scheduling and planning of hydrographic survey trips by coordinating inter-departmental issues with other operating departments. Supervises assembly and loading of necessary instruments and equipment for hydrographic survey trip on Company survey boats. Reviews survey performance and data acquisition.
2. Performs data processing work. Reviews new charts and verifies accuracy prior to distribution. Ensures proper maintenance of data library for future reference and further analysis.
3. Performs regular water depth surveys of the Khafji Inner harbor, subsequent data processing and revisions of depth chart of the area. Ensures timely distribution of revised charts for offshore activities. Performs positioning services for drilling, structure installation, offshore maintenance, dredging work, and other miscellaneous purposes.
4. Performs regular survey trips to Ex-Loading Dock and G/Station to collect tidal/oceanic data. Reviews analysis of observation data for reporting to other operating departments, and for publication.
5. Supervises maintenance and storage of survey equipment and instruments by periodical cleaning, lubricating.
6. Prepares budget for the section activities. Endorses purchases of necessary equipment/instrument and materials.
7. Prepares tender specifications and drafts contracts for outside work and service.
Independence of Operations
Determines work methods from alternatives in accordance with professional standards. On-site judgment is needed to respond to irregular/unexpected events under ocean environments. There are not many occasions in which inter-departmental coordination by supervisor is required.
Physical Effort & Work Environment
Spends 10% of the time supervising on board or outdoor, and 90% of the time sitting in office. Spends 10% of time exposed to extreme heat and sunshine during hydrographic survey in the sea.
Minimum Requirements
Degree in Land/Hydrographic Survey, including Computer Science, and a socially-recognized Certificate of Hydrographic Surveyor, or equivalent.
10 year experience as hydrographic surveyor.
Good knowledge of English language.
The post holder may be required to undertake additional duties, which may be reasonably expected and forms part of the function of the post.
